Shamanic Tiger Qigong (LaoHuGong)
LaoHuGong: Chinese Shamanic Tiger Qigong
This qigong form comes from the lineage of the Wu shaman of ancient China. A graceful dance through the cosmos, this form takes us through the 24 movements of the Daoist solar calendar known as the JieQi.
According to this system, there are 24 distinct changes in energy on earth—far beyond the four seasons that are acknowledged by the western calendars. These are known as the JieQi, which roughly translates to “nodes” or sections of energy on earth that change every 15 days in accordance with the position of earth in in relation to the sun.
This qigong form takes us through these 24 seasons as they manifest in the body. It is a graceful dance through the cyclical nature of the cosmos through the story of an ancient tiger emerging from the returning to the void.
This form is taught under the guidance of my teacher, Master Zhongxian Wu under whom I learned and became certified to teach this practice to others. It is with great gratitude that I share the medicine of his ancestry, with the hope that spreading practices that increase our resonance with the cycles of the earth will help to increase our sense of peace and connection with our bodies, the natural world, and the greater all-that-is.
Each class will begin with a discussion of the energetics for each season through it’s hexagram correlations and the names and qualities of each of the JieQi within that season.
The goal is to develop a sense of personalized context and meaning for the cycles of the sun and moon throughout the year, deepening our sense of cyclical experience with nature.
In the words of Master Wu:
“The energy created by resonating in harmony with the universe is the original medicine”
