What is Qigong?
Qigong translates roughly to “work” with Qi and the breath. Qi is energy, the visible and invisible movement and force underlying all things in the universe. Qi stirs the wind, transforms water to vapor. It is the electrical current that drives your heart beat, fuels your digestion. It is the containing force of gravity and the invisible energy of oxygen.
Qigong is a series of ancient practices aimed at the cultivation of this vital life force in your own body. Working with this energy helps to regulate and shed unwanted emotions, calm the stress response system, heal the myriad illnesses from dispersing the stagnation of energy that the Daoists believe underlie all mental and emotional imbalance.
A regular qigong practice will greatly change your life. When this happens, it is believed that your new energy will emanate outwards to help in the collective transformation and healing of the planet. We become like beacons of light.
As many of my masters have said,
“First qigong practice benefits us, then it radiates out to touch all of our loved ones and friends, then to our greater community, our country and the world. “
It is a moving mindfulness practice that integrates breath work, visualizations, and patterns of movement. It is the means by which the ancients of East Asia once interacted with their environments under the shared assumption of oneness with all. Perceiving the currents of qi in their bodies and in the air, mapped across the night sky and mirrored in the cycles of orbiting planets and seasons.
Regular practice of qigong helps to regulate the central nervous system, giving us a calm place from which we can better navigate our lives with less anxiety, more energy and more agency. It teaches us to find our center and maintain our power.
Classes are taught individually, in groups, indoors, outdoors and online.
Individual sessions are offered through Zoom and in-person for $75/hr.
How could you benefit from private qigong sessions?
If you are someone who lives with an activated nervous system, resulting in anxiety, insomnia, a sense of disembodiment, panic attacks, digestive and sleep issues or the myriad other ways that this imbalance manifests, individual qigong sessions might be a great fit.
Many students have been drawn to learning qigong, but find it difficult to learn and practice these rituals in a group setting. This option is especially tailored for those individuals or for anyone who wants one-on-one spiritual coaching.
Qigong helps us return to the innate wisdom and stillness of our own bodies, the vast and permeating lightness of our hearts.
My goal is to help you find the calm within the storm, to give you personal agency and a set of tools that will empower your mind, body and spirit.
After an initial meet-and-greet session over Zoom, we will come up with a qigong program that works best for your schedule and needs.
